Objective: The graduate should assume a responsible
position as a medical sonographer and a member of the health care
team in imaging centers, private physician's offices, industry and
government service.
Educational Objective: To educate students to acquire
satisfactory skills and demonstrate competence in ultrasound procedures.
This education will enable the student to perform duties and responsibilities
of an entry level diagnostic medical ultrasound technician (sonographer)
in General Abdominal and OB/GYN ultrasound. This program will consist
of both didactic (classroom) and clinical education (externship).
Educational Prerequisites: All persons desiring to
enroll in the Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound program must possess one
of the following:
A) Bachelor's degree (any major) or foreign degree equivalent to a
Bachelor's degree in the U.S. or Canada. Or,
B) Graduation from a single two-year allied health education program
that is patient-care related.
Allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic
medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist,
occupational therapist, physical therapist and registered nurse. Or,
C) MD or DO degrees equivalent to those of the U.S. or Canada

of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
Prior Allied Health Background: This program contains an introduction
to health care component. Persons with a comparable allied health
background (minimum of verified Medical Assisting skills) may challenge
this component by written and practical exam.
